Indigenous Youth Come Together to Plant Trees and Fight Climate Change

The initiative was led by Indigenous youths from Cambodian Indigenous Youth Association (CIYA), in collaboration with Kui Hai organization, organized a meaningful Tree Planting Day to help reduce global warming and address climate change on June 21, 2025.
The event brought together 25 indigenous youth—12 women and 12 men—from across six provinces: Ratanakiri, Kratie, Kampong Thom, Kampong Speu, Pursat, and Preah Vihear. This activity was held in Pal Hal village, Pal Hal commune, Preah Vihear province, the activity was youth-led and focused on environmental action and cultural connection. The participants planted native trees including Beng, Sukram, Trabek Prey, Champak, and Thnong. It was more than just tree planting—it was a space for young people to connect, share experiences, and support each other in protecting the land and their traditions.

This activity was made possible thanks to support from DanChurchAid Cambodia (DCA) under the project “Indigenous Youth Participation in Traditional Land Protection”, and the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) under the project “Strengthening and Organizing Indigenous Youth in Cambodia.”
Together, these youth are planting hope for a greener future while standing strong for their environment and identity.
